Autumn Colour Blazes At The Yorkshire Arboretum

If you felt the change in the air recently, then you know that autumn has well and truly arrived, and it brings with it nature’s spectacular display of colour at the Yorkshire Arboretum. More than ever the restorative benefits of green open spaces and trees have been appreciated visitors to the arboretum. The trees at the 120-acre site near Castle Howard are already beginning to turn with vibrant reds, golds and yellows that will only intensify over the coming weeks. The ‘October Glory’ red maple is beginning to live up to its name and superb crops of berries are appearing in pink, orange and white.

Yorkshire Arboretum Director, John Grimshaw, said:
“As the season turns to autumn we are looking forward to the annual change of colour on the trees, with tints already apparent on some specimens. While we all like the brilliant effect of fully coloured trees there’s a lot of pleasure to be found in studying the details too; I really love the subtle blends of colours in a Silver Maple, for example, yellows, brown and reds blending with the green of unchanged leaves. In the Woodland Garden fuchsias and hydrangea continue to give a floral display, and elsewhere there are heavy crops of berries on many Sorbus trees. All contribute to the many-coloured quilt that is autumn at the Yorkshire Arboretum.”
