Food Bank Hosts Free Events To Help Parents Struggling With Summer Childcare

Local development charity and foodbank, Feedo Needo, is hosting a series of free events in Manchester and Bradford over the school holidays for parents facing childcare struggles over Summer.

Throughout August, Feedo Needo will be holding a variety of free events at Manchester and Bradford branches. Events include planting flower pots, painting and more. Community organisations in the areas have kindly donated items for the events.

The aim of the events is to bring families together over summer, whilst providing essential childcare following many youth centres either shutting down or costing parents more than they can afford.

With the cost of living continuing to rise, many parents who visit Feedo Needo branches expressed concern regarding the affordability of childcare over the six weeklong school holidays. This led to organisers at Feedo Needo coming together to provide free childcare in a bid to help parents battling the soaring costs of day-care.

Reports state that the costs of childcare over the summer is likely to be the highest on record as providers are forced to put up prices to balance their books.

Rafa Ahmed, Project Manager at Feedo Needo said:
“The combination of the increase in food prices, utility bills and inflation has led to extra pressure on childcare providers, meaning they have unfortunately had to put prices up. A lot of providers also went out of business during Covid, meaning parents have less childcare choice and some more affordable providers are no longer around.

“We regularly serve parents who are now unable to afford childcare whilst they are at work. The parents who don’t have family or friends to rely on have been hit especially hard. We hope our events will help ease the stress for struggling parents and we want them to know that there is support out there for them at our centres.”
