Overall Winner Of Small Press Of The Year Announced At This Year's British Book Awards
Sheffield-based adventure books publisher Vertebrate Publishing has been announced as the overall winner of the fourth annual Small Press of the Year Award.
The award, which is sponsored by CPI Books, was announced at The British Book Awards winner ceremony last night at Grosvenor House London in the first in-person British Book Awards ceremony since 2019, and the biggest yet. The event was also streamed online
here.
Previously announced in March as regional winners for the North of England, Vertebrate Publishing’s outdoor adventure guides and narratives were perfect in a year when people felt the urge to connect with the wild. It shrugged off publishing’s supply issues to surge past £1m in turnover for the first time, with direct sales from its website — backed with outstanding customer service — particularly strong.
The 2022 Small Press of the Year regional and country winners were:
East and South East England: SRL Publishing
Island of Ireland: The Irish Pages Press/Cló An Mhíl Bhuī
London: Elliott & Thompson
Midlands: Eye Books
North England: Vertebrate Publishing
Scotland: Cranachan
South West England: From You to Me
Wales: Rily Publications
The award is a great opportunity to celebrate the innovative and nimble publishers making names for themselves outside the mainstream.
