Summer is looking to be the busiest time for holidays with peak travel planned from July - September.

This year’s holiday arrangements are going to be very different to usual, with the pandemic halting many plans to go abroad. So, to help with the demand of local trips across the UK and to help Brits get back on the road again, Asda Money have investigated the UK’s attitudes around travel plans over the next year with a survey of 2,000 people to discover what Brits’ getaway plans are.

They’ve also used their findings to help create a personalised Asda Money’s Adventure Planner that can help build the perfect UK trip, featuring over 150 attractions all over the UK, and some of Yorkshire’s top locations for all ages, groups, budgets and staycation dreams!

Below are some of the top attractions in Yorkshire featured in the Adventure Planner :

The Royal Armouries is a museum full of amazing objects connected to wars and weapons, from medieval jousting to Japanese archery. From the earliest days of bronze swords to shining armour and modern weapons, the collection covers a huge range of eras and cultures.

Harrogate is a Victorian spa town, with boutiques, cafes, and beautiful surrounding countryside. Take a walk through the popular Valley Gardens, or indulge in some afternoon tea at the famous Betty’s Tea Room in the centre of town.

Ingleton Falls Trail is a 4.5 mile walk through enchanting woods and sweeping scenery, with several spectacular waterfalls along the way.

Bolton Abbey provides stunning parkland with moors, woods and riverside paths, as well as impressive abbey ruins from 1154!

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a beautiful seaside spa town with a historic pier, a mile of golden sand and soaring sea cliffs. You can find great shops, pubs, and places to eat in the town itself, before heading around the sandy beach.

When asked about holiday plans for the next year, over a third of Yorkshire residents (37%) said they don’t know when they will travel internationally again, and 19 per cent said they would never travel. This goes hand in hand with the pandemic and the UK’s current feelings towards this, with over two fifths (41%) of people living in Yorkshire saying they were concerned about COVID-19 cases in other countries.

With concerns and restrictions still very much present, this is reflected in people’s holiday plans for this year, with almost half (47%) of Yorkshire residents saying they were more likely to book a holiday in the UK than in previous years, however only 18 per cent said they had already made holiday bookings – showing that there’s still plenty of opportunity to plan a perfect staycation.

Of those planning to travel within the UK over the next 12 months (1,153 people), over six out of ten people from Yorkshire (61%) said that it would be to go on holiday, over a third (37%) said it would be to visit family, and almost a quarter (24%) said it would be to visit friends.

Summer is still looking to be the busiest time for people to holiday, with 13 per cent planning to travel in July, 20 per cent planning to travel in August, and 16 per cent travelling in September – showing that Yorkshire residents are still keen to make the most of summer and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!

Alistair Ball, Head of Insurance at Asda Money, commented: “The pandemic has impacted us all in so many ways, including holiday plans many of us would usually look forward to. But it’s great to see people are still hopeful in making the most of the British Summer, and getting back on the road to visit loved ones and explore all the beautiful places we have on offer.

There’s certainly some fantastic trips to be had, and we want to help make that as safe and feasible as possible, which is why we it’s so important to us to offer affordable motor insurance to our customers, so they can spend time and money thinking about other things – like adventures!”

Asda is offering £10 off tickets to some of the best attractions in the UK, with the launch of its ‘Fun Packed Summer’ to keep the whole family entertained through the summer months. Customers are offered the opportunity to grab £10 vouchers when they spend £50 on their weekly shop in store, or £100 online, which they can then redeem across over 2,000 attractions around the UK until May 2022. The ‘Fun Packed Summer’ deal is live until 16th August in all stores and online. Asda customers can then use the Adventure Planner to plan their own ‘Fun Packed Summer’.
