Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 1st March

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

Dune: Part Two (12a)

Following on from 2021's acclaimed first film, this second chapter in Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed and spectacular adaptation of Frank Herbert's visionary 1965 sci-fi novel, makes a story once called "unfilmable" into one of the greatest cinematic epics of our times. This second part of the story sees Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) unite with the Fremen of Arrakis to wage a war for freedom against House Harkonnen. Co-starring a star-laden ensemble that includes, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem among others. Critics have hailed Dune: Part Two as a masterpiece and a towering achievement in filmmaking that even surpasses the power, visual innovativeness and soulful storytelling of the first film. With the film sitting at a staggering 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and being ranked already among the greatest sequels of all time like Empire Strikes Back, T2: Judgment Day and The Dark Knight.

Lisa Frankenstein (15)

Lisa Frankenstein comes from the writer of Jennifer’s Body Diablo Cody and is the feature length directorial debut of Zelda Williams and is a horror comedy blend that could well be a future classic. Telling the story of an outcast Goth girl who constantly visits the grave of a Victorian man, envisioning the man of her dreams, and comes to work on it, as she re-animates his body and, piece by piece, makes her dreams a reality. Funny, ‘80s infused and rather heartfelt, with an acclaimed lead performance by Kathryn Newton, alongside Cole Sprouse, Lisa Frankenstein is a joy for fans of horror, romance, comedy, and all three stitched together!
