Suntans In Dorset & Nooky In Nottingham!

Dorset has been named as the ideal holiday replacement for Tenerife according to a ‘duplicate destinations’ study that has ranked UK destinations based on climate, cost and entertainment value!

Many Brits won’t be able to make the warmer climes of Europe this year. But according to Dorset Coastal Cottages, who commissioned the survey, that needn’t matter.

According to the study 83% of Brits would now prefer a UK staycation than choose to travel abroad this year, due to cost concerns, self-isolation requirements and quarantine measures leading to uncertainty among holidaymakers.

The study claims to show that there’s no need to travel abroad to make the most of the summer weather - as top UK destinations that boast high sun hours, hot temperatures and low rainfall include Dorset, Cornwall, Edinburgh and Richmond - based on climate scores.

Climate scores assigned in the study were worked out by averaging out the annual sun hours, average temperature and average rainfall per year for each location, with areas then matching up to their European counterparts to show which places are closest in weather.

For Brits unable to make their annual summer trip to Tenerife, they could instead travel to Dorset after it was revealed to be the UK location with the closest average climate score to the Spanish island - not to mention the famous beaches and tourist attractions.

With 1,798 hours of sun on average per year, annual temperatures of 11.06C and 905 inches of rainfall, Dorset has a similar average across the three to Tenerife - where there are 2438 hours of sun, temperatures of 21.5C and average rainfall of 895 inches.

For those people who prefer a more cultural experience - perhaps a Christmas market or two - and would usually head towards Prague, Edinburgh is the ideal replacement in terms of climate scores as well as local attractions, while the average cost for one person to stay for a week is also £230 less than the Czech capital - meaning better savings, too.

Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent are the surprise choices for a replacement trip to the most romantic city on the continent in Paris (!), while the Scottish Isles of North Uist and Barra are suitable replacements if you can’t travel to Barcelona or Santorini respectively.
