According to the Oral Health Foundation - "Tooth decay is almost entirely preventable, yet it remains the number one reason for childhood hospital admissions for general anaesthesia in the UK".

Taking inspiration from National Tooth Fairy Day - August 22nd - ExpressDentist.com have provided five top tips to help parents make brushing teeth a more enjoyable experience for their children.

Dr Greg, resident dentist at ExpressDentist.com comments:
“Parents often struggle to get kids to brush their teeth, but there are a few tricks that may help. I've had success with all of these ideas, but it depends on the child!

1. Use a toothbrushing app to make brushing fun. There are a few excellent free choices available, and many kids respond favorably to these.

2. Get an electric brush that's designed for kids. Better yet, let them choose it out at the store to get their favorite design.

3. Put a calendar in the bathroom and mark a star each time they brush. Celebrate with a special prize at the end of each week.

4. Choose Youtube videos designed for kids to help them brush and learn the importance of daily habits.

5. Help young children brush the teeth of their favorite stuffed animal before they brush their own teeth.

With a little creativity and persistence, most kids will develop a brushing habit. Then, you can introduce children's flossers and help them clean between their teeth, too!”
