York Proms Plans A Right Royal Show For The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

After a disastrous time for the live events industry, York Proms founder, Rebecca Newman, vows to return with the biggest event so far, with a special royal flavour included to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

The next event is on Sunday 10th July 2022 and discounted early bird tickets are on sale now. Once again, the iconic and historic Museum Gardens, in the city centre, will be the location for the event.

Rebecca says:
“Ticket sales for the original 2020 event were our best yet and there was a buzz of excitement over the fourth annual concert. I’m so pleased that most existing ticket holders have stuck with us and been exceptionally patient after the first rescheduled date in 2021 also needed to be postponed.”

The York’s Proms own orchestra, The Yorkshire Festival Orchestra, will be returning under the musical direction of Ben Crick and the soloists will be announced in the new year. Once again, there will be a community stage, allowing local choirs and groups to participate in this memorable event, that has quickly become a central part of York’s musical calendar.

Alongside the picnic concert events the York Prom company runs, Rebecca says she is keen to realise the dream of setting up a foundation to help improve access to music tuition and music experiences for children in York.

She says:
“My co-founder and late husband, Jonathan, always regretted he hadn’t picked up an instrument as a child and we hope to be able to use the York Proms to realise opportunities for the next generation. His sudden death in 2020, due to an undiagnosed heart condition, along with the challenge of Covid that saw so many events and live event companies collapse, threatened the future of the York Proms, but it has also made me even more determined to keep the event alive for decades to come. After the drama, sadness and isolation of the past two years, I’m sure the event will be just what everyone needs and will a great opportunity to enjoy a night of music together in one of York’s most iconic locations.”

Tickets are on sale now, with a limited number of Early Bird discounted tickets, which saves music lovers up to 20%. They can be purchased via yorkproms.com or at the Visit York Visitor Information Centre in person or by calling 01904 555 670.

Audience members are welcome to bring a picnic on the day, including alcohol, but there will also be catering on site, which will be announced nearer the time.

Rebecca says:
“We always encourage our audience members to dress up in patriotic outfits, which can be great fun, but this year we are also encouraging a royal theme to the outfits, with special prizes for best dressed and most imaginative outfits. We hope to see lots of you there.”
