(777 Records)

If you are a fan of Kenny Thomas, it pays to be patient – this is his first new album release in over fourteen years. Best known for his big hit, Thinking About Your Love, the British soul singer still has the voice – and songs – that brought him to fame, as demonstrated on this fine collection of tracks.

If I Can’t Have You is a good starter for the album – a mid-tempo track that is bathed in summer sunshine as the rest of the new record takes its inspiration from nineties R&B that recalls acts such as Damage, Blue and Another Level, though overall the mood is one that is timeless in the quality of songwriting and delivery.

Kim Wilde makes an appearance on Shout Out, whilst successful Sheffield producer and songwriter Eliot Kennedy (Spice Girls, Bryan Adams) provides an uplifting groove on Stand Up for Love, a song that should be heard and played on any discerning dancefloor as Thomas keeps the spirit of soul alive.

Many of the tracks contained here would lend themselves to remixes by the likes of any in-demand DJ, though the conviction and determination in his voice remain sincere throughout.

The album ends where the story first started with a stripped-down version of Thinking About Your Love, reborn here as a ballad built around a simple but effective piano refrain, proving that you can’t keep a good song down, as Thomas indeed remains unstoppable.
