In the early hours of Sunday morning local time in Las Vegas, the FIA stewards have disqualified the McLaren cars of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from the results of the Grand Prix there after the usual post-race scrutineering checks found that both had failed to comply with the minimum height of the rear skid blocks.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had been a comfortable winner of the Grand Prix, with Norris and Piastri finishing second and fourth, respectively. However, the disqualifications left Mercedes’ George Russell and Kimi Antonelli completing the revised podium trio.

This development will also have a significant impact on the battle to become this year’s world champion, as, ahead of next weekend’s round in Qatar, Norris will now have a reduced lead of 24 points over both Piastri and Verstappen, with a potential 58 points still up for grabs for any driver.
