A special festive pop-up shop in Carlisle this November will raise funds for a cancer charity inspired by a little girl who has recently overcome leukaemia.

Mandy Norwood will host the week-long Little Treasures pop-up at Intro PR’s premises on Paternoster Row, near Carlisle Cathedral, from Saturday 1 November.

The shop will offer a curated range of high-quality home accessories, arts, crafts, rugs, seasonal decorations and small furniture pieces - all in aid of a cause close to Mandy’s heart.

The fundraiser was inspired by Mandy’s friend’s daughter, Kitty, now six, after bravely battling leukaemia for three years.

Money raised will go to Children's Cancer North and Wards 4 and 14 at the RVI in Newcastle, to help improve accommodation options for families during treatment.

“Throughout Kitty’s treatment, her mum, Helen, often spoke about the vital role parents play in their child’s care. Yet, despite the need for round-the-clock support, there was often only space for one parent to stay overnight in the hospital,” said Mandy.

“Heartbreakingly, some parents simply couldn’t afford to stay nearby and were left with no choice but to sleep in their cars just to be close to their child.

“I decided I wanted to help, and I have committed to raising a sum of money to help with the accommodation problems.”

All stock for the pop-up will be donated, upcycled or purchased using cash donations, with some local businesses pledging 10-20 per cent of sales to the fundraiser. Customers can expect to pick up Christmas presents, decorations, home accessories, as well as beautiful local arts and crafts.

“After one Shout Out on Facebook earlier in the year I have already been overwhelmed by the response,” Mandy said.

“Some of the items I’ve already had donated are gorgeous — from velvet cushions and a walnut wall mirror to vintage Christmas baubles.

"One lady has given me a small antique box which has inspired me to call the project Little Treasures, also reflecting the children battling these awful illnesses.

Helen Statham, mam to Kitty, said: “It’s been a rocky few years while our daughter was having treatment, but we couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of family and friends, and all the incredible team at the RVI in Newcastle.

“We're incredibly touched that Mandy and everyone involved have put so much time and care into this pop-up to support Children's Cancer North and families like ours.”
