Manchester-born security specialist Laura Walsh has been named North West Female Security Officer of the Year at the British Security Awards 2026.

Walsh, an employee of MAN Commercial Protection, received the accolade from the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) for her performance at the Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre in East Didsbury, Greater Manchester.

Judges highlighted two specific operational interventions during her tenure. In the first instance, Walsh subdued a male individual who was physically attacking a unit manager, detaining the suspect until Greater Manchester Police arrived to make an arrest. In a separate incident, she administered first aid and de-escalated tension involving an injured teenager and arriving family members prior to police arrival.

In addition to her front-line duties, Walsh assists in managing health, safety, and environmental compliance at the entertainment complex. Her employer has funded several professional development qualifications during her three years with the business, including CCTV operation, fire warden duties, and Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certification.

Iain McCallister, CEO of MAN Commercial Protection, said: “Our people are so important to the way we deliver security services and I’m delighted to see Laura recognised for her amazing service. The security industry training she received gives her the skills to do the important intervention, but her attitude towards protecting others is what made her such a worthy winner.”

Following her regional success, Walsh will contest the national title at the British Security Awards finals, scheduled to take place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London this June.

Laura Walsh added: “I love being part of the team that protects the centre and adds to its friendly and welcoming environment. To win the North West award is amazing and I still can’t believe it if I’m being honest. The accolade is not just for me, but for the team that I currently work with and how we continually try to help people who visit the centre and make it a positive experience for everyone.”
