To celebrate International Day of Disabled Persons, MySight York, the city’s expert sight loss charity, is partnering with Living 4 Moments to deliver a dynamic Inclusion Taster Workshop that explores what true inclusion looks like and why it benefits everyone.
The interactive session will highlight how improving accessibility and awareness can transform customer experiences, strengthen community connections, and boost business success. Participants will gain a practical understanding of the “Purple Pound” (the collective spending power of disabled people) and learn how inclusive practices can positively impact York’s local economy.
MySight York, as York’s trusted organisation supporting people living with sight loss, will share valuable insights into the barriers faced by those with visual impairment, along with simple, effective ways to make services and environments more accessible.
Living 4 Moments, founded by inclusion specialist Rachel Barber, helps organisations and communities build confidence in accessibility and communication. Drawing on lived experience of hearing loss and professional expertise in different settings, Rachel uses training and storytelling to inspire practical change and connection through inclusion.
Together, the MySight York and Living 4 Moments teams will draw on lived experiences of both sight and hearing loss to demonstrate how small adjustments can make a big difference.
Attendees will take part in short, practical tasters including:
Accessible Social Media – How to communicate online in ways that include and engage everyone.
Sighted Guiding – Learn confident, respectful techniques for supporting someone with sight loss.
Lipreading and Disability Awareness – Explore clear, inclusive face-to-face communication strategies.
