Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 27th September

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 27th September

Megalopolis (15)
The legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola returns to the big screen for the first time in over a decade for his new film Megalopolis. Over 40 years in the making, this longtime coming passion project for Coppola is a visionary sci-fi epic that sees a clash between Cesar (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo. Co-starring the mighty talents of Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D. B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman, Coppola sold part of his wine estate to fund this ambitious film and make his dream a reality onscreen. And it has to be seen to be believed!

Dragonkeeper (PG)
A sweeping family adventure, Dragonkeeper is an adaptation of Carole Wilkinson's novel. Set in ancient China, as dragons are on the brink of extinction, the story sees a precious and rare dragon egg fall into the hands of an enslaved girl, as she embarks on a journey to save the species and in the process fulfil her destiny. Starring the vocal talents of Bill Nighy and Bill Bailey, Dragonkeeper is a beautiful and soulful adventure for the entire family.

Never Let Go (15)
Halle Berry stars in this gripping horror thriller from director Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D, Crawl, The Hills Have Eyes). The film sees a family at a remote woodland farmhouse menaced by an evil spirit, reliant on the safety of ropes that keep them from being dragged into the darkness. Taut, effective and exciting, this film could well be a breakout for young stars Christin Park and Matthew Kevin Anderson!

Hellboy: The Crooked Man (15)
Director Brian Taylor’s fresh new take on the Dark Horse Comics hell-born anti-hero that strays closer to Mike Mignola’s source material. The film sees supernatural investigator and rookie agent Hellboy (Jack Kesy) stranger in rural Appalachia in the 1950s as he discovers a small community haunted by witches and a mysterious force known as ‘The Crooked Man’. Leaning heavier into horror and smaller scaled suspense, this could be a treat for fans of the character.
