Team GB At The 2026 Milano Cortina Games: Week 1 Roundup
The 2026 Winter Olympics got underway this week, with Team GB featuring in curling, snowboarding, figure skating, freestyle skiing and cross-country skiing.
Across the first 5 days of Olympic action, Team GB qualified for the curling mixed doubles semi-finals as well as the Freestyle Skiing Women’s Freeski Slopestyle and the Snowboarding Women’s Big Air finals.
Wednesday 4th February: Day -2
Team GB got off to a winning start in the curling mixed doubles as Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds defeated Norway’s Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten 8-6 in the first of their round robin matches.

Thursday 5th February: Day -1
Dodds and Mouat were in action again in the morning session of day 2 as they defeated Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill 10-5 after the 7th end required the stones to be measured to clarify the winners. In the evening session, they made it three wins from three after beating Czechia’s Julie Zelingrová and Vit Chabičovský 8-7.
19-year-old Txema Mazet Brown rounded off Thursday’s action as he finished 21st in the Snowboarding Big Air qualification with a total of 151.75.
On the Big Air qualification, Mazet-Brown said: “I’m happy with my riding today; it’s my first Olympics so it was nice to land two of my jumps…” There were definitely a couple of butterflies in my stomach, but they were good ones.”

Friday 6th February: Day 0
Ice Dance skaters Leah Fear and Lewis Gibson kicked off Team GB’s Figure Skating Team Event qualification as they scored a season-best 86.85 to finish 3rd (scored 8 team points). They were followed by pairs skaters Anastasia Vaipan-Law and Sheffield’s Luke Digby, who finished 9th after scoring 57.29 (scored 2 team points).
Kristen Spours’ Women’s Single skate scored 48.28, leaving her in 10th (scored 1 team point) as the first day of Figure Skating Team Event qualification came to a close with Team GB sat in 8th overall on a combined score of 11 points.

In the morning session, Dodds and Mouat were in action as they faced Sweden’s Isabella Wranaa and Rasmus Wranaa, whom they beat 7-4 before they beat Korea’s Seonyeong Kim and Yeongseok Jeong 8-2 in the afternoon session to remain unbeaten heading into the second half of the round robin stage.
Saturday 7th February: Day 1
Dodds and Mouat returned to action in the curling mixed doubles round robin against Canada’s Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant, whom they beat 7-5. They then faced the unbeaten USA team of Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin, whom they beat 6-4 to cement their place in the semi-finals.

In the Freestyle Skiing Women’s Freeski Slopestyle qualification, Kirsty Muir cemented her place in Monday’s final with a first run score of 63.18 (which left her in 2nd) and a second run score of 64.98 to finish 3rd overall.
Olympic debutant Anna Pryce made history as she became Team GB’s first representative in the Cross Country Skiing Women’s 10km + 10km Skiathlon where she finished 42nd with a time of 1:01:09.5.
In the Freestyle Skiing Men’s Freeski Slopestyle qualification, Olympic debutant Chris McCormick finished 26th after a first-run score of 33.90 and a second-run score of 33.21.
Team GB’s final event of the day was the Figure Skating Team Event qualification, in which Edward Appleby scored a season-best 69.68 in the Men’s Singles to finish 10th, leaving Great Britain 9th overall on 12 points.
On making his Olympic debut in the Team Event, Appleby said: “I feel like I’m on quite a bit of a high right now. Obviously it wasn’t a clean skate, but it felt very solid, and it was one that let me enjoy the moment even more.”
Sunday 8th February: Day 2
Two British skiers competed in the cross-country skiing men’s 10km + 10km skiathlon with Andrew Musgrave finishing 10th at his fifth Olympics and Olympic debutant Joe Davies finishing 16th.
Dodds and Mouat lost 6-7 to Switzerland’s Briar Schwaller-Hürlimann and Yannick Schwaller despite an incredible fightback that left the scores level after being 0-4 down heading into the 4th end. They ended their round robin campaign with a 9-6 win against Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner to qualify 1st overall.
Two Olympic debutants, Mia Brookes and Maisie Hill, featured in the Snowboarding Women’s Big Air qualification, with Hill finishing in 29th with a total of 77.25 whilst Brookes secured a place in Monday’s final after finishing 3rd with a total score of 167.00.
On competing at her first Olympic Games, Maisie Hill said: “I'm pretty proud of myself, and it means a lot to be here. But I've worked so hard and I never doubted myself, to be honest. I was actually leaving the hospital three years ago today (said on Sunday, 8th) after my injury. I was told I might never be able to walk again, and so to be here now is quite cool."
