How Performing Arts Franchises Champion Wellbeing And Empower Communities
40,00 children flock every week to Stagecoach performing arts classes nationwide. Nearly 300 franchises of Stagecoach operate over 680 schools with 1,780 classes available across eight different countries.
Part of the Stagecoach success can be attributed to their franchisees which have helped unlock the potential of more than one million students since its opening in 1988.
Participating in the performing arts can unlock numerous benefits for young people beyond mastering the skills of singing, dancing and acting. The performing arts can bolster confidence and ignite creativity as well as fostering the essential skills of communication, emotional intelligence, resilience and dedication.
Moreover, by exposing children to a diverse range of cultures and traditions, participating in the performing arts can nurture cultural awareness, broaden perspectives and cultivate an appreciation for diversity, thereby contributing to both their personal and social development.
Research from the All-Party Parliamentary Group Creative Health: The Arts for Health and Wellbeing has demonstrated that participating in performing arts leads to a staggering 71% decrease in feelings of anxiety and a 73% reduction in depression. In addition, 76% of participants reported an increase in overall well-being, while 69% felt more socially included. Figures such as these demonstrate just how pivotal the role of the performing arts is as a critical service for young people especially.
When determining the success of a franchise business, quantitative measures such as turnover and growth often take centre stage. Obviously these factors are important, but it is equally crucial to consider additional qualitative metrics of success like company values, ethos and the impact that your product or service has upon wellbeing.
CEO of Stagecoach Performing Arts, Andy Knights, shares the benefits of investing in a franchise that has a positive impact on wellbeing for not only its franchisees but also its customers.
Andy Knights has held his role as CEO since 2014 and has over 20 years of experience working in the franchising industry.
“A franchise centred around children’s wellbeing and performing arts holds inherent longevity, irrespective of economic fluctuations. By prioritising service quality and forging robust relationships with students and parents, a franchise committed to the wellbeing of children can instil loyalty and retention. As parents witness the positive impact on their child's wellbeing and witness the training and support provided, they are more inclined to continue using and advocating for the service.”
“Children's performing arts programmes place great emphasis on nurturing creativity, self-expression, confidence and social skills. By tailoring programmes to cater to specific age groups and offering progressive learning opportunities, performing arts franchises ensure students remain engaged and committed. Creating an inclusive and supportive environment, where friendships form among students and parents find like-minded peers, fosters a sense of belonging and community.“
On the topic of embracing social responsibility, Andy said:
“Performing arts franchises can become an integral part of their local communities by contributing to the growth and development of children. Franchisees have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the communities they serve, fostering a sense of pride, connection and belonging that significantly contributes to their overall wellbeing.”
“As a performing arts franchisee, you are empowered to contribute to positive social outcomes, leaving an indelible mark on the world while experiencing heightened job satisfaction and fulfilment. Stagecoach Performing Arts nurture a positive work environment, priding itself on a strong company culture. Franchisees thrive when they wholeheartedly believe in the franchise's mission and values and feel engaged, committed and productive.
“By providing positive opportunities for young people, franchisees encounter various challenges and prospects, fostering personal and professional growth. They develop essential skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, empathy and cross-cultural understanding.
“In an era where individuals seek professional opportunities aligned with their values, franchises prioritising social responsibility become magnets for talented and successful franchisees. This synergy not only amplifies franchisee satisfaction but also underpins the long-term success and sustainability of the entire franchise.”
Andy also noted the importance of nurturing wellbeing and balance for franchises such as Stagecoach:
“At Stagecoach Performing Arts, Principals have the flexibility to work in a way that allows them to spend quality time outside of work. With the freedom to engage in activities beyond work, such as spending time with loved ones or pursuing personal interests, franchisees can relax, recharge and alleviate stress, positively impacting mental and physical health.”
“Having time for relaxation, hobbies, socialising and self-care activities helps prevent burnout, combat exhaustion and maintain mental wellbeing. It cultivates a sense of accomplishment and allows individuals to develop new skills, explore their passions and find meaning beyond their professional responsibilities. Striking a work-life balance positively affects professional contributions as well. When franchisees have time to invest in their personal lives, they return to work with renewed energy, focus and motivation, ultimately benefitting the success of their business.”
Andy Knights describes investment as “an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of people” He says, “By recognising the value of performing arts and the positive influence it can have on wellbeing, investors can truly invest in a force for good.”
