A warm and sultry night in old London town was the location for the formal brand launch for Lepas in the UK. Regular readers will already have seen my review of the Chinese manufacturer’s first car, the L8, Lepas L8 Launch Review

However, this was a chance to meet the full team and find out what the future plans are.

An awful journey south, thanks to LNER with a cancelled train, overcrowding and no air conditioning, saw me turn up just on time at Camden’s rather lovely Town Hall, located almost opposite Kings Cross Station. On display were Lepas’s two new models, the L6 and L4. The former will arrive here before Christmas, with orders opening very soon.

Looking like a scaled-down L8, there’s still room aplenty for five to travel in a good deal of comfort. Material quality is high, in keeping with Lepas’s premium aspirations.

It’s the company’s first EV and the 65kWh battery and 217PS electric motor which should offer up to 279 miles of range in ideal conditions. In addition, a 30-80 per cent charge can be accomplished in around 22 minutes on a fast DC charger.

Standard equipment includes 10-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a panoramic glass sunroof, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a 540-degree camera and 22 ADAS safety functions. The Elevate model adds heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, SONY premium audio and Advanced Parking Assist.

A 7-year/100,000-miles vehicle warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty come as standard. No word on pricing yet, but likely to be competitive.

We are unlikely to see the L4 until 2027, and this model scales things down further. The display model was supposedly locked, but I did manage a sneak peek inside. Not quite the finished article, they say, but no surprises and still plenty of space.

Lepas L4

Rewind to the L8 launch, and missing were the all-important PCP rates. Most privately bought new cars are financed this way, and I can now confirm the following:

This is broadly competitive, and a read of my review may convince you that this is the car for you.

So, what else did I glean from the night? Lepas has big aspirations for the UK. They plan to have 90 dealers in place by the end of 2027. These will be glamorous places, where customers can relax and discover the world of Lepas. I gather the retailers are excited to have this new brand on board.

Representatives were at the event, and the mood was buoyant to say the least.

In the longer term, Lepas will bring a raft of new models to the UK. Expect the numbers to continue to count down to Lepas 1. Watch this space as the story unfolds.
